Meet Dr. Katherine Carvlin

Naturopathic Physician & Environmental Medicine Expert

Katherine Carvlin, ND, MS

For many people living with chronic illness, the hardest part isn't just the symptoms—it's the search for answers. If you've been told your lab work is "normal," seen multiple specialists without lasting improvement, or feel like something has been overlooked, Dr. Katherine Carvlin understands how frustrating that journey can be.

Dr. Carvlin specializes in caring for patients with complex chronic illnesses using a comprehensive, root-cause approach that looks beyond symptom management. She believes chronic illness is rarely caused by a single factor. The most overlooked factor in chronic disease is everyday environmental exposures. By taking the time to listen carefully to each patient's story and thoroughly investigate environmental, infectious, hormonal, nutritional, metabolic, and lifestyle contributors, she develops personalized treatment plans designed to restore health, improve resilience, and help patients reclaim their quality of life.

Her clinical focus includes environmentally acquired illnesses, such as mold-related illness, metal toxicity, multiple chemical sensitivity, and occupational or other environmental toxicant exposures, as well as chronic infections including Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Lyme disease and co-infections, and Long COVID. She also has extensive experience treating mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), POTS and other forms of dysautonomia, hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders including SIBO and IBS, hormone imbalances, and patients seeking a personalized approach to longevity and preventive health.

Dr. Carvlin's treatment plans are tailored to each individual's unique needs and may include nutrition and lifestyle medicine, botanical medicine, targeted nutritional supplementation, prescription medications when appropriate, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, IV nutrient therapy, ozone and prolozone therapies, regenerative medicine techniques, visceral manipulation, GLP-1 medications, and other evidence-informed therapies that support healing and long-term wellness.

Dr. Carvlin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition from Hawthorn University, and her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University. She completed her residency at Bastyr Center for Natural Medicine and has pursued extensive postdoctoral training in Environmental Medicine, including the year-long certification program through Environmental Medicine Education International and Dr. Jill Crista’s Mold Illness Training. She has also completed advanced training in ozone and prolozone therapy, IV nutrient therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and visceral manipulation.

Committed to advancing the field of Environmental Medicine, Dr. Carvlin currently serves as President of the National Association of Environmental Medicine (NAEM), where she works alongside national leaders to educate clinicians, promote research, and increase public awareness of environmentally acquired illness. As part of her leadership with NAEM, Dr. Carvlin served as an author of the organization's Mold Illness Clinical Guidelines, contributing to national clinical guidance for the diagnosis and management of mold-related illness. She is also an active member of the International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Above all, Dr. Carvlin believes every patient deserves to be heard. She is passionate about partnering with her patients to uncover the "why" behind their symptoms and helping them move beyond simply managing illness toward achieving lasting health and vitality.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Carvlin enjoys tending her garden, spending time outdoors, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband and their three children.
